Speech and Debate
The idea for Speech and Debate was to showcase the childhood bedrooms of the three main characters before their lives became entangled in scandal. The grey wall in the middle not only acts as a projection surface, but also anchors the floor space in the middle of the stage for many school scenes. Since school is at the heart of the scandal, the grey from that wall begins to seep into the lives of Solomon and Diwata, while Solomon (and therefore his bedroom) is more isolated from the incident at the beginning of the play.
